Snow Removal for Senior Citizens or People With Disabilities

Every winter the Suffolk County Office for People with Disabilities receives many calls requesting information on snow removal for people with disabilities and/or the elderly. There is no such County Service. Senior citizens and people with disabilities have snow removed from their driveways, walkways, berms and all other areas with few exceptions, by paying for the service. Fees are negotiated privately.

Residents can contact their local high school BEFORE it snows, to see if there are any students available and willing to help. Below are Town Youth Bureaus who have a list of names of young people willing to shovel snow for a fee as well as some other helpful numbers:

*Please note that the Huntington Town Office of Handicapped Services does have a program of snow berm removal for Huntington Town residents with disabilities on limited incomes. Eligible Huntington residents must register with Huntington Town Handicapped Services every year. Check with Huntington Town Office of Handicapped Services (631) 351-3233 for specific detail. The Town of Islip has a similar program which requires a Doctor’s note. Please call these Towns before it snows.
